Myofascial Release (MFR) is a type of self-massage technique that helps to release tension in the muscles fascia (tissue that is layered over muscles and our organs). Think of fascia like that sheen layer on a piece of chicken breast. MFR is a hands-on approach that uses sustained pressure on the soft tissue of the body in order to release tightness and adhesions in the fascia, which helps to also restore normal range of motion, and increases blood flow to the muscles.
The benefits of MFR include increased mobility, improved posture, enhanced performance in physical activities, decreased risk of injury and improved overall well-being. Additionally, MFR can help to reduce stress levels and improve sleep quality. With regular practice, Myofascial Release can help people achieve a greater sense of balance in their body and mind. It is a great practice to incorporate in part with a fitness routine or any physical activity.
This technique can be used by anyone who wants to improve their physical health and well-being. There are many kinds of tools that are available. Most know of foam rollers which is what comes to mind first but there are also massage rounds, rod's, and other tools alike!
